The small city of Lafayette, Indiana is quickly becoming a big city. With long time manufacturers like Subaru and Siemens in the area, as well as newcomer GE, along with Purdue University, growth within the area is rapid. A major revitalization initiative within the downtown area is underway. Sidewalks and streets will be torn out and improved all along the Main Street corridor. While ultimately providing a needed update to the look of this historic avenue, there will be teething pains. Some businesses will loose some visibility, while other may see a decline in foot traffic during the construction.
The City of Lafayette used a varied marketing team including Indiana Design Consortium and Maxiumedia to create a campaign to bolster the businesses who will be required to cope during the construction. A dedicated website, among other multi-media pieces, will be used to promote the message that Main Street is alive, well, and “Open for Business” during construction.
